Cremation

AGR typically cremates shortly after the donation occurs and tissue recovery has taken place. Provision of the cremated remains (ashes) can be returned to donor families at no cost. Should donor families be unable to pick up ashes at our facility, we can ship them via registered mail for a nominal fee.

Some of the new benefits that we now offer revolve around our ability to perform our own cremations. Typically, other programs contract out to crematories. This is a logical method of providing cremated remains. AGR had pioneered this method many years ago when the option of returned cremated remains by a tissue bank was first developed. However, this method, of contracting out cremations presents a more complicated process. AGR has two State-of-the-Art Cremation units at its facility. By developing our own ability to cremate, we helped alleviate some of the following issues'
  • Future Donors and their families have a significant reduction in paperwork
  • Future Donors and their families can visit our facility, by appointment, and view the cremation units, as well as other aspects of AGR's operation.
  • AGR is not influenced by schedules, maintenance, and reliability of other crematories. The helps AGR to expedite cremations efficiently and timely.
  • Minimize and stabilize AGR's expenses associated with the cremation process.
As with most programs, it is important to note that cremated remains provided by AGR may contain ashes generated from those portions of the body not utilized for medical study. This allows AGR to provide remains quickly so your family may have the closure and a service, if desired.
